Martin
Ščibran

Husband and father of two sons. Electrician and automation professional. Sportsman, Christian and active citizen whose life has taught him to understand people from very different backgrounds.

“We do not have to agree on everything to be able to do something good together.”

About me

I am 43 years old. I grew up on a large housing estate among people from very different backgrounds. It was there that I learned to listen, adapt to the situation and find common ground even where it may not be obvious at first.

Different worlds, one experience

The people around me included independents, punks, skinheads, skaters, Christians, Roma, successful people and people on the margins of society. Each environment had its own language, values and view of the world. It taught me not to judge a person simply by a label and to communicate across different groups.

I still have friends from different periods of my life. I consider that one of my most valuable experiences.

Life journey

My path has not been a straight one. Changes in professions, countries and environments have given me practical experience that cannot be gained from books alone.

Security services

I worked in private security, guarding buildings, concerts and sporting events, where I learned to remain calm, responsible and level-headed.

Funeral services

Working around death reminded me at an early age how fragile and short human life can be, and how valuable relationships and time are.

Abroad

Work experience in Italy and Switzerland taught me independence and how to work with people of different nationalities and cultures.

Electrical engineering and automation

After the economic crisis, I returned to my trade. From 2010, I developed my work in electrical installations and later in automation. Public records list my electrical qualifications from 2013.

Sport

Physical activity has been part of my life since childhood. First it was running and martial arts, later fitness. Today I see sport not only as performance, but also as an investment in health and physical capability as I grow older.

From running and martial arts to fitness

At primary school I was among the fastest pupils and represented my school in running. I was fascinated by martial arts films and over time tried karate, Won Hwa Do, Jeet Kune Do, aikido, boxing, taekwondo, Chinese boxing and Muay Thai.

For roughly the past 16 years, I have focused mainly on fitness. With two children there is less time, but regular exercise remains a firm part of my life.

Civic life and politics

I do not see politics as a football match between two camps. Experience has taught me to judge above all the individual person, their work, character and the specific solution they offer.

Experience from within and perspective from outside

In the past, I was a member of SMER – Social Democracy and HLAS – Social Democracy. I met people with good intentions as well as the darker side of party politics. I ended my membership and today I act as an independent citizen.

I can support a good proposal or a capable person regardless of whether they come from a conservative, liberal, social-democratic or other democratic background. At different times, I therefore cooperate and communicate with people across the political spectrum as well as with independents.

Because of this, friends jokingly gave me the nickname “the connector”. I see it more as a commitment: to bring people together where a shared goal makes sense.

I do not want to use this website to tell people whom they should vote for. I want to explain why I refuse to define every person solely by a party logo.

Family and faith

The most important role in my life is neither my job nor politics. I am a husband and father of two sons, and I try to be someone they can rely on.

Faith as part of life

I have been a Roman Catholic Christian since childhood. As a schoolboy, I served as an altar boy at the parish church in Žilina. When the Church of the Good Shepherd began to be built near our Solinky neighbourhood, I volunteered to help with its construction as a teenager. For a time, I also returned to altar service as an adult.

For me, faith does not mean rejecting people who live or believe differently. Throughout my life I have had friends of different faiths, nationalities and life stories. In my view, respecting another person and remaining true to one’s own beliefs are not mutually exclusive.

Home

My wife and I try to raise our children with faith, decency, a respect for work and respect for others. I see many events in my life as gifts for which I am grateful.

Dogs have also been part of our family. Ajša was my dog for almost eighteen years. Such a long friendship with an animal teaches you loyalty, patience and how difficult it is to say goodbye.

Longevity and curiosity

Since 2015, I have spent some of my free time exploring healthy ageing and longevity. Not as a doctor, but as a curious person who enjoys reading research and thinking about how to remain healthy and active for as long as possible.

From metformin to modern research

I started with scientific articles about metabolism and substances studied in connection with ageing. Over time, I added books and topics such as rapamycin, senolytics, omega-3, spermidine, fisetin and urolithin A.

The longer I explore the subject, the more I recognise the difference between an interesting mechanism and a genuinely proven benefit for people. I therefore still see the foundations in physical activity, sleep, diet, prevention, relationships and a meaningful life.

Snapshots

Not everything that matters fits into a biography. Some things are best explained by ordinary photographs.

For group photographs, I name publicly known people only where their identity has been reliably verified and where it is relevant to the story of this website.
